Collingwood’s Rapid Additional Residential Unit Initiative page says 2026 grant applications are open and lists C$100,000 in grant funding for the year. The Town invites applicants to ask how much remains. Its standard grant is C$10,000 after the owner receives the required zoning certificate and building permit and agrees to rent the new unit year-round for at least five years.

A separate County loan can add a second Town grant

Homeowners approved for the County of Simcoe’s Secondary Suites Program may receive another C$5,000 from Collingwood. The County currently summarizes its program as a forgivable loan of up to C$50,000 per property. Its 2025–2026 fact sheet describes 15-year loan forgiveness and affordability conditions for the rental unit. This second Town payment depends on County approval; it is not part of the base C$10,000 award. Confirm the current County intake, rent, and income terms before relying on this additional route.

The Town’s eligibility list requires a new ARU, land-use permissions, no delinquent debt to Collingwood, and no listed bylaw violations. It limits applications to one per property and requires proof of a 12-month lease each year during the five-year Town commitment. The source page identifies a separate C$46 zoning-certificate fee; the grant does not remove that upfront charge.

Check timing and remaining funds

The Town page recommends contacting staff about the property and permit requirements before applying. It also advises owners to line up design drawings and check their financing. Ask Collingwood to confirm the current grant balance, application milestones, permit timing, required documents, and what counts as year-round rental. Ask Simcoe separately about its loan intake and affordability terms.

A grant is not a zoning decision, building permit, utility approval, or permission to occupy. For other assistance examples, see the current ADU grants guide and the guide to conditions attached to funding.
