The Town of Comox offers a C$3,000 grant for qualifying new or upgraded accessory dwelling units under its Home Suite Home program. The Town limits the offer to the first 25 qualifying units and a maximum C$75,000 allocation. The page says the program runs until December 1, 2027 or until the funds are exhausted, whichever comes first. Confirm the remaining allocation before relying on the grant.
Check which project may qualify
The Town lists new coach houses, upgrades to unauthorized secondary suites or coach houses, and new secondary suites in an existing detached home or side-by-side duplex. The unit must meet the Town’s zoning requirements, including parking rules. For a proposed secondary suite in an existing house, the house must have received occupancy before December 4, 2024.
The owner must sign a declaration that keeps the unit available as a residential dwelling for at least five years. A building permit is required, and the unit must receive an occupancy permit within 14 months after the permit is issued. The grant should be treated as conditional on the Town’s review and the deadlines, not as an upfront discount from construction costs.
Follow the Town’s route
Comox directs homeowners to confirm the project and regulatory requirements, determine whether a development permit is needed, apply for a building permit, and tell staff they want to apply for the incentive. The applicant then submits the completed program declaration. Ask the Town whether any of the first 25 awards remain and which documents it needs for the selected unit type.
The incentive does not establish zoning permission, code compliance, utility capacity, or permission to occupy. For other local offers, see the ADU grants and programs guide and the guide to funding conditions.
